A QCD Calculation of the Interaction of Quarkonium with Nuclei
نویسندگان
چکیده
The interaction of quarkonium with nuclei is studied in the mQ → ∞ limit of QCD, where the binding energy is found to be exactly computable. The dominant contribution to the interaction is from two-gluon operators. The forward matrix elements of these twogluon operators can be determined from the QCD scale anomaly, and from deep inelastic scattering. We apply our results to the Υ and J/ψ, treating the QQ interaction as purely Coulombic. We find the Υ binds in nuclear matter with a binding energy of a few MeV, while for the J/ψ binding is of order 10 MeV. For the J/ψ in particular we expect confinement effects to produce large corrections to this result. UCSD/PTH 92-12 March 1992

Nonperturbative QCD Vacuum Effects in Nonlocal Quark Dynamics
A straightforward calculation reveals the essentially nonlocal character of the leading heavy QQ̄ interaction arising from nonperturbative gluon field correlations in the model of a fluctuating QCD vacuum. In light of this quarkonium spin splitting ratio predictions which have supported the scalar confinement ansatz are reconsidered as a specific example of possible consequences for spectroscopy.
متن کاملA Nonperturbative Study of Quarkonium Systems
Using Nonrelativistic QCD on the lattice we studied the mass spectrum of quarkonium systems nonperturbatively for a range of the bar quark mass. We determined two products of the matrix elements involved in quarkonium decays and studied the mass dependence of the results. We predict from our calculations the leptonic decay width of , and use the mass dependence to predict the leptonic decay wid...
متن کاملLattice Calculation of Quarkonium Decay Matrix Elements
We calculate the NRQCD matrix elements for the decays of the lowest-lying Sand P-wave states of charmonium and bottomonium in quenched lattice QCD. We also compute the one-loop relations between the lattice and continuum matrix elements. Heavy-quarkonium systems are nonrelativistic. In the CM frame, the average quark velocity v satisfies v 2 ≪ 1, where v 2 ≈ 0.3 for charmonium, and v 2 ≈ 0.1 fo...
متن کاملHeavy Quarks in the Quark-gluon Plasma
Heavy-flavor particles are believed to provide valuable probes of the medium produced in ultrarelativistic collisions of heavy nuclei. In this article we review recent progress in our understanding of the interactions of charm and bottom quarks in the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP). For individual heavy quarks, we focus on elastic interactions for which the large quark mass enables a Brownian motion ...
